The Castle is in a wonderful location in Fife. Just 15 minutes driving to St. Andrews, and an hour drive from Edinburgh. The train takes an hour from Edinburgh, and costs approximately $16.
Fife is a great area, where you have access to so many great spots in Scotland. Renting a car is option, but not neccessary. There is a train station in town, where you can hop on 1 hour train to Edinburgh, as well as many other great villages and towns. St. Andrews is a great place to visit in Fife. Home to many shops, galleries, pubs, and inspiration for your art! Falkland Village (where some of Outlander was filmed) is like a walk in the past, full of old houses, cobbled streets, tea shops, and pubs dating back 600 years. Falkland Palace was home to the Kings and Queens of Scotland. Visit the lovely fishing villages of Crail, and wonderful shops in East Neuk. The Abbey at Dunfermline is where King Robert the Bruce is buried. Also just next to Fife is Kinross, where you can visit a castle in the middle of Loch Leven, where Mary Queen of Scots was kept a prisoner. There is endless exploration either by foot, train, bus, or car.
